The symptoms of malaria are; fever, flulike illness, chills, muscle aches, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and also coughing. Dr. Musoke thought that he might have malaria because he had a fever, muscle aches, and also headaches.

I think I agree with Hayley, some of malaria's signs are like this virus and the liquifying organs or non stop bleeding had not occured yet. Malaria makes you all over un easy and that is how Dr. Musoke felt.
I also agree with haley about his symptom. Even though he didn't have all of them, he had some of them which made him first think about having malaria beaucse it's a common disease that he knows about.
I also agree with Haley. The symptoms of The Marburg virus are similar to the symptoms of M alaria. Since Malria is more common then Marburg, it is more likley assumed. the begining symptoms of The marburg virus are fever, headaches, muscle aches and coughing. While the symptoms for Malaria are the same. In Africa Malraia is a common disease so its easy to assume that anybody with those symptoms has Malaria and not something else.
As stated before, the symptoms of Malaria and Marburg are similar in the beginning stages. Malaria is seen more frequently than Marburg, especially with him being a doctor in Africa. It is only logical for him to assume that he got Malaria, possibly from one of his patients.
Abby, I agree with you. Once a cell is infected and bricks form, they're filled with so much virus that they burst. In a way it is like a balloon being filled with too much air that eventually it explodes and shrivels up.
I agree with all the recent posts above. As Meagan said before Malaria and Marburg are very similar in the beginning stages. Malaria is also more common than Marburg so Dr. Musoke probably just assumed he had Malaria. The beginning symptoms of Marburg are headache, sore muscles, and coughing. So, the symptoms are the same. I also agree with Abby and Meagan that when the cells are liquifying it means that once the virus gets inside the cells, and the virus makes the cells swell and burst. Then the organ that is infected can't function anymore because it doesn't have any cells inside it.
Dr. Musoke was infected with Ebola when he tried to save Charles Monet. This was nine days before he started to realize he was sick. This period of time is the same length in Ebola as Malaria. Since the doctor had never treated anyone for Ebola he just assumed he must be catching Malaria because Monet vomited all over him before he died. Other similar symptoms Dr. Musoke experienced, similar to Malaria, are aches all over his body and a fever. This caused him to start taking Malaria pills but these didn’t do anything to help. Nausea and vomiting are also common symptoms he and Monet experienced. Holly Grace Mrs. Reardon Period 2
As the other posts have said, both Malaria and Marburg are very similar to one another once they contaminate the body. As Meagan O. said, Malaria is much more common in Africa than Marburg is.
The symptoms of Marburg are: -Fever -Severe headaches -Joint and muscle aches -Chills -Sore throat -Weakness
Symptoms of Malaria include: -Fever -Chills -Headache -Sweating -Fatigue -Nausea and vomiting
Just as has been said in all of the previous posts; the symptoms of the diseases of malaria and Marburg are uncannily similar in the early stages of both viruses. In both of these diseases the symptoms include fever, chills, headaches, and weakness. It is only as the diseases continue in destruction of the body that malaria and Marburg can be differentiated. When looking at what is actually happening in the cells of someone infected with Marburg, the cells fill up with particles of the virus and eventually burst, causing the organs to become dysfunctional and shrivel up. (As others have said in their posts.) I agree with all who have mentioned this when they say that it was not foolish for Dr. Musoke to think that he had a case of malaria when he noticed his symptoms because this disease is commonly seen in the hospital where he worked, and the presumption that he contracted it from a patient was reasonable.
After Charles Monet vomited into Dr. Musoke’s mouth and eyes, Dr. Mouske begins to feel a backache that soon spread through all the muscles in his body. When his eyes started to turn red and he started to get a fever he thought that he had malaria. The symptoms of malaria include fever, chills, headache, muscle and back aches, dry coughs, nausea/ vomiting, and fatigue. The early symptoms of Ebola are fever, headaches, muscle aches, a dry cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, and stomach pain. The symptoms of malaria are similar and almost exactly the same as those of Ebola making it difficult to properly diagnose Ebola early on in a place where Malaria is so common. It is easy to see how a doctor that knows nothing of Ebola or Marburg virus could think anything of early symptoms.

What does it mean by liquifying organs? What is happening on a molecular level?
ReplyDeleteThe cells are bursting so everything is losing form and the organ cannot function without its cells.
